The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly hoping to acquire a wide receiver through a trade. They are currently searching for a wide receiver.
After rumors started to circulate that the Steelers were considering wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers, Aiyuk shot himself in the foot by tweeting at head coach Mike Tomlin.
This came after reports from Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the Steelers might be considering a “bigger catch” than current Jets receiver Mike Williams.
Ray Fittipaldo, his colleague, has now revealed that the team is researching wide receiver trade markets. A group that probably consists of Justin Jefferson of the Vikings, Tee Higgins of the Bengals, and Aiyuk.
Fittiapoldo stated in his weekly chat, “The [Steelers] are doing their due diligence with the trade market.”
With $15 million remaining in their salary cap, the Steelers may try to sign a bigger player to take Diontae Johnson’s spot. In the process, they would probably have to give up on their top draft picks, but they have probably filled enough holes in free agency to make that work.
It seems like anything is possible for Pittsburgh this offseason, including a major trade for a wide receiver, given general manager Omar Khan’s aggressiveness in moving two players and acquiring Justin Fields in a deal with the Chicago Bears.
